Chromium(III) Chloride Description

Chromium(III) chloride is a kind of purple crystalline flakes with a chemical formula of CrCl3. It can be used in the formation of a catalytic system for the conversion of glucose into 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF). It can also be used in the preparation of ionic liquid mixtures using choline chloride and water with improved ion mobility and conductivity.

Chromium(III) chloride is an excellent water soluble crystalline chromium source for uses compatible with chlorides. Chloride compounds can conduct electricity when fused or dissolved in water. Chloride materials can be decomposed by electrolysis to chlorine gas and the metal. They are formed through various chlorination processes whereby at least one chlorine anion (Cl-) is covalently bonded to the relevant metal or cation.

Chromium(III) chloride is an important raw material for the synthesis of other chromium salts and plays an important role in inorganic synthesis and organic synthesis. It is the main ingredient of synthetic feed additives and is mainly used as a mordant and catalyst in the industry.
