Yttria Stabilized Zirconia Grinding Jar Description
Planetary mills are best suited for finely grinding soft, medium-hard, hard, moist, and tough materials. This is made possible through the high energy impact of grinding balls kept within rotating grinding bowls. The use of zirconia for these jars is to lend properties such as high hardness, strength, wear resistance, and chemical resistance. They are resistant to all kinds of solvents and acids, allowing users to store different kinds of liquids here. Every jar set is available with a jar lid, rubber sealing gasket, and a grinding jar.
Yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) is the most common form of stabilized zirconia ceramic. Typical composition of yttria stabilized zirconia is 94.7% ZrO2 + 5.2% Y2O3(weight percentage) or 97% ZrO2 + 3% Y2O3 (mol percentage). It is also call partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ). PSZ is a mixture of zirconia polymorphs, because insufficient cubic phase-forming oxide (stabilizer) has been added and a cubic plus metastable tetragonal ZrO2 mixture is obtained.
Compared with alumina, zirconia has much larger density and better wear and corrosion resistance. Yttria stabilized zirconia is a better material for mechanical parts. It is the most durable material for ceramic grinding media and grinding jars. Due to the high density of YSZ, the grinding efficiency is also rather high. It also provide low contamination due to the wear resistance and corrosion resistance.
Our composition range for YSZ includes 3mol%, 5mol% and 8mol% yttria. The highest oxygen ion conductivity occurs with approximately 10 mol% Y2O3 addition.
