Yttria Stabilized Zirconia Description
Yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ / YTZ), also known as yttria zirconia, yttria stabilized zirconium oxide, is the strongest ceramic material SSC supply. YSZ is a purely tetragonal phase, fine grain material. This material offers the highest flexural strength of all zirconia-based materials.
SSC produces YSZ powder by self-propagating hydrolysis process. Based on different content of Y2O3, we can produce different YSZ powder. Normal products are 3 mol% YSZ powder-based, divided into compacted powder and non-compacted powder depending on the customers' requirements. The physical properties could meet customers' different requirements for dry pressing, isostatic pressing, injection, casting, injection molding, and slip casting and so on.
Yttria stabilized zirconia is available both partially and fully stabilized. Partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ) is a mixture of zirconia polymorphs, because insufficient cubic phase-forming oxide (stabilizer) has been added and a cubic plus metastable tetragonal ZrO2 mixture is obtained. The most common and widely used PSZ is 3 mol% of yttria stabilized zirconia. It contains 3 mol% yttria (Y2O3), 5.2±0.2 % in weight.
Our composition range for YSZ includes 3%, 5% and 8% molar yttria. The highest oxygen ion conductivity occurs with approximately 10 mol% Y2O3 addition.
