Description of Titanium 6246 Alloy
Ti-6246 is a high-temperature alloy that is an alpha-beta titanium alloy with high strength and hardenability at 400-600 °C. It is an alpha-beta titanium alloy offering very high mechanical strength with impressive retention up to 460°C. It is suitable for long-term operation at higher temperatures. It has a high transient and long-lasting strength over the entire operating temperature range. It has good plasticity, good creep resistance, and good thermal stability at room temperature, and good fatigue resistance at room temperature and high temperature.
The alloy is heat treatable and deep hardenable. Ti 6246 offers superior corrosion resistance and is sour service approved to the NACE MR-01-75 standard. The weldability of Alloy 6246 is limited. The grade has a density of 4.65 g/cc and a nominal hardness of 39 HRC.
Titanium 6246 is used in applications where very high strength, light weight and corrosion resistance are important. Potential applications include shafts and housings for oil and gas drilling tools, subsea wellhead and riser components, well sampling equipment, pressure housings, and completion equipment. Ti 6246 has also been used in the aerospace sector for the manufacture of gas turbine engine components and the motorsport industry for the manufacture of precision racing engine parts.
