Platinised niobium anodes combine the good electrochemical properties of platinum and the good corrosion qualities of niobium.

Platinum is a good anode material because it is high conductivity and low consumption rate. But as a precious metal, platinum is often used by electroplating a thin layer over a high-corrosion-resistant substrate to reduce the cost. Niobium is a material that is often used as a surface for anodes.

Platinum coated (platinized or platinum clad) niobium metal anodes are lightweight and highly conductive. They are used for electroplating, protecting the cathode, and treating water. Platinum coated niobium anodes are usually available right away and can be made in forms like sheet, mesh, perforated plate, rod, or wire.
