Iridium Wire and Rod Description
Iridium is known for its hardness, brittleness, and very high melting point. Iridium's high degree of stiffness and resistance to deformation make it difficult to machine, form, or work. However, it finds a number of applications where mechanical strength is an essential factor in some of the extremely severe conditions.
Iridium wire is the most corrosion-resistant wire. It is often used for electrical applications such as filaments and heaters.
Iridium rod is used to make components for highly demanding applications in extremely corrosive environment. However machining iridium is extremely difficult due to its hard brittle nature. Larger diameter iridium rods are used to make spark plugs.
Besides pure iridium wire, SSC also supply iridium-rhodium alloy wire (Ir/Rh10) sized from 0.2 to 0.7 mm and platinum-iridium alloy wire (Pt/Ir10, Pt/Ir20) sized from0.045 to 6.0 mm.
