Hafnium Crystal Bar Description
Hafnium has good corrosion resistance and high strength. It resists corrosion due to formation of a tough, impenetrable oxide film on its surface. Hafnium is unaffected by alkalis and acids, except hydrofluoric acid. Hafnium is difficult to separate form zirconium, because the two elements have atoms that are the same size. Hafnium applications include nuclear reactors, nuclear submarines, medical treatment equipment, fuel cells, solar energy.
Hafnium has a strong ability to capture a neutron, making it a great material for control rods in nuclear reactors. The nuclear industry roughly consumes half of the Hf produced every year. However, the major commercial source for hafnium element is still the production of nuclear level zirconium. Hafnium is also used as an additive to alloys and crystal bar is the best source for high purity hafnium. Hafnium crystal bars are also used as raw material for high purity hafnium wire and hafnium targets. Hafnium wires and other Hf parts are also used in plasma cutting because of their ability to shed electrons into air. High purity hafnium wires could have better performance and are more durable than low purity products.
Hafnium Crystal Bar Properties
● Hafnium has good corrosion resistance, is not easily corroded by general acid-base aqueous solutions, and is easily dissolved in hydrofluoric acid to form fluorine complexes.
● At high temperatures, hafnium can also be directly combined with oxygen, nitrogen, and other gases to form oxides and nitrides.
● Hafnium is relatively stable in the air, and powdered hafnium is very easy to burn.
● Hafnium has a large thermal neutron capture cross-section, and hafnium has outstanding nuclear energy. It is an indispensable rare material for the development of the atomic energy industry.
