Zirconium Oxide Description

Zirconium oxide (zirconia) is the main oxide of zirconium. Its chemical formula is ZrO2. Under normal conditions, it is a white, odorless, and tasteless crystal, and it is insoluble in water, hydrochloric acid and dilute sulfuric acid. The chemical properties of zirconium oxide are inactive, and it has the properties of high melting point, high resistivity, high refractive index, and low thermal expansion coefficient, making zirconium oxide an important high-temperature resistant material, ceramic insulating material, and ceramic sunscreen. In addition, zirconium oxide is also the main raw material for artificial diamonds. Zirconium oxide is a highly insoluble thermally stable zirconium source suitable for glass, optic and ceramic applications. High purity (99.999%) zirconium oxide powder is useful in light weight structural components in aerospace and electrochemical applications such as fuel cells in which they exhibit ionic conductivity.

Zirconium oxide is also available in pellets, pieces, powder, sputtering targets, tablets, and nanopowder.
