Zirconium (IV) Sulfate Tetrahydrate Description

Zirconium(IV) sulfate is the name for a family of inorganic compounds with the formula Zr(SO4)2(H2O)n where n = 0, 4, 5, 7. They are white or colourless solids that are soluble in water.

Zirconium(IV) sulfate tetrahydrate powder is a white crystalline powder with a relative density of 3.22 (16°C). When heated to 135-160°C, it will lose three molecules of crystal water. When it is higher than 450 °C, it will lose all the chemical book crystal water. In addition, zirconium sulfate hydrate powder is soluble in water and sulfuric acid, slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in hydrocarbons. When dissolved in water, a lot of heat is released, and the aqueous solution is strongly acidic. Zirconium(IV) sulfate tetrahydrate is a moderately water and acid soluble zirconium source for uses compatible with sulfates. Besides, zirconium(IV) sulfate tetrahydrate powder is decomposed by alkali treatment or heating.

Zirconium(IV) sulfate tetrahydrate powder is used in organic synthesis. It is also used in tanning white leather. Further, it is used as catalyst supports to precipitate proteins and amino acids. It is also useful in chemical analysis. It plays an essential role as an additive for lubricants and as a pigment stabilizer.
